Troubleshooting the "You cannot create any more Standard Staff users because the license limit has been reached" error

As a user administrator, you are able to convert Staff users to Contacts and vice versa. When doing so, you might see the error message: Person: You cannot create any more Standard … users because the license limit has been reached. This article explains the cause and solution.
1. Understanding the Cause
Users may be Staff or Contacts, and a user administrator can click a button in the Staff or Contacts modules to convert a user to the other type.
This error may be displayed:
Person: You cannot create any more Standard Staff users because the license limit has been reached.
Or
Person: You cannot create any more Standard Contact users because the license limit has been reached.
This is because the user's licence type is carried over with them. So, if you convert a Staff person with a Standard licence, then the system will attempt to make them a Contact with a Standard licence. If you have no available licences of that type, then the error will arise.
2. Implementing the Solution
The solution is to change the licence type allocated to the user before using the Convert function.
