Uninstalling Retain Corporate v5

This document is for server administrators wanting to remove the Retain Corporate v5 client, server and database components from their system.
1. Uninstalling the application server
If the Retain application service was installed using the installer, then follow the first method shown here. If the installer was not used, follow the second method.
- If you need to locate the application server on your network
- Go to a Client PC.
- Locate the file servers.ini.
- Open this file in Notepad, and you will see the Server address.
- If you need to locate the database on your network
- With each of the methods shown, you will end up looking at the application service program files folder. This contains a file called SvrCnfg.ini.
- Open SvrCnfg.ini in Notepad
- Locate the line beginning DBName=. This shows the server address and database name.
1.1 Method 1: Using the uninstaller
- Access the application server
- Open Add/Remove Programs.
- Scroll down the list of apps to find Retain Corporate 5.
- Click Uninstall and follow the wizard.
- This will uninstall the service, scheduled tasks and remove most application files, but will leave a number of files including SvrCnfg.ini at the application path, by default this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Retain Corporate 5) these files can be removed as required.
1.2 Method 2: Manual uninstall
- Access the application server
- Run services.msc
- From the list, locate RetainServersServiceV5.
- Stop RetainServersServiceV5.
- From the service properties, in the General tab locate the Path to executable. This is the location where the application files are stored.
- Open CMD as Administrator, and run the command sc delete RetainServersServiceV5 .
- Delete the application folder.
- Open Task Scheduler, and select Task Scheduler Library.
- Delete RetainSVRStart, RetainSVRStop and UpdateBKG.
2. Uninstalling the Client
- For clients installed using the Retain installer, you can remove the application by navigating to
- Add/Remove Programs on the client PC.
- Uninstall Retain Corporate 5.
- If you use Retain in conjunction with Ideagen Internal Audit (formerly known as Ideagen Internal Audit (Aura)) then it is likely that Retain is deployed via ClickOnce, and removal of the client deployed this way is described in the article Disabling Retain Sync
