Exporting read-only Audits
What is the purpose of this article?
Steps for users to export a copy of their audit file
Audits can be exported from the system, in order to provide external firms to view the audit data related to the audit that was exported.
Using the Export Read Only option will allow the user to export the audit data along with the user interface which is called a Sandbox.
Please note that The sandbox will be read-only and can never be synchronised back into the application.
Additional information on the export process:
- The export can only be performed by a user who is authorised to read that Audit.
- The sandbox will only contain Audit data where the user was authorised to read the records. E.g. If they can only read assigned Tests, then only these will be included.
- The sandbox will treat the end user the same as the user who produced it.
- The sandbox will be created once and the population is a one-time process which can be repeated independently. It is not possible to add another Audit to a sandbox at a later date.
- A sandbox may contain multiple Audits if selected together.
- Any Reviews or Points within the Audit will not be exported.
How do you export an Audit?
From the universe on Internal Audit, select Audits and from here if you highlight either one specific audit or multiple audits,
You should now see on the ribbon, under the offline working section, the option to Export Read-Only:
You will then be presented with a notification asking you to confirm whether to wish to proceed with the export and if you wish to include attachments:
It will then open up a browse dialog, and you now need to select a location to which you would like to save the exported sandbox and audit data.
Once you have selected the location, Internal Audit will start exporting the data to the zip folder and you should receive a notification stating that the export was successful.
How do I open the read only Audit?
- Check the properties of the zip file, and if the 'unblock' checkbox is shown then tick it and click OK
- You will need to extract the zip file to your local drive
- From the extracted folder, run the file Vision.exe
- Once the application is opened, the user will see the audit that has been exported
A video demonstrating the process and a couple of issues that can arise around the download and unzip process is available here:

File size limits
Note that there is a limit on how large the exported zip file can be. If the total content of the data exceeds 2Gb then the export will fail.
