Deploying a new licence file
Who is this article for?
IT Administrators and System Administrators needing to deploy a new application licence.
IT Administrator permissions are required to resolve the issue, System Administrator permissions are required where the licence count decreases.
If the contracted number of licenced users changes, it is necessary to deploy a new licence file to the application server.
This article describes the process.
1. Preparation
Before you swap the file, confirm whether your licence number is increasing or decreasing.
If your number of licenced users is increasing, proceed directly to updating the file.
If your number of licensed users is decreasing, first remove licences from users no longer using the application. Otherwise, you may encounter errors when changing licences later, such as: "You cannot create any more [...] users because the license limit has been reached".
2. Updating the file
To update the file;
- Access the application server.
- Locate the application's Service folder, which contains the licence file licence.lic.
By default this path will be C:\inetpub\wwwroot\[Pentana instance]\Service. - Back up the existing licence.lic file.
- Copy the new file into that location, overwriting the original.
- Restart the application pools for the instance.
- Restart the Robot service.
- Run the client application to check that the system has restarted correctly.
Once done, confirm your current licence numbers to make sure the update was successful.
